Orangina, finished

I finished my Orangina shawl today, and here are some pictures of it pre-blocking. I doubt that I’ll manage to block it before I fly to Germany, so I guess it will have to wait for it to be done there. There it is, all spread out:

And here’s a closer look at the nupp-replacing beads I used in the lily-of-the-valley section:

And another close up on the beaded cast off I’ve done:

Lacy rib socks, finished

I finished knitting my lacy rib socks, and on time for the KAL. I had to modify the heel a little bit, as it wouldn’t fit my slightly disproportionate feet otherwise, but I must admit I like the overall result of the of a heel flap on toe-up socks, though it requires more planning ahead to fit to my feet.

Update: as it turns out, since I didn’t post WIP photos to the group forum, my socks don’t qualify as a candidate for this month’s prizes. Oh well, it’s not like I would have won anyway, but it’s nice to know I might have, no?

Organgina shawl

After my previous beaded knitting project, which was not so difficult as I thought it would be, I decided to knit another beaded shawl with my orange silk and cashmere jade sapphire yarn I bought last year in Berlin. I chose Swallowtail shawl as a pattern after seeing so many lovely projects that incorporated beads in it, and having a relatively small amount of yarn, I decided it would be a good pattern for this yarn. I ordered some Miyuki beads online, and started knitting.

I got this much knit already:

And here’s a closer look on the beads incorporated while knitting:

I quite happy with the effect of the small beads incorporated into the shawls body, but I’m thinking of ordering larger beads to knit into the shawl instead of the nupps, I don’t want to knit those as they consume too much yarn.

Frost shawl

I taught lace knitting course at All You Knit is Love over two Saturday afternoons, one explaining a simpler scarf pattern and the second one explaining a triangular shawl pattern. For both I chose free patterns available through blogs or through Ravelry, trying to look for elements I though were important for lace knitting novices; of the first I only knit a small sample, but the second I like so much that I think I’ll finish it. I used this malabrigo lace in Polar Morn:

And here’s how much I’ve knit so far:

And a little bit of close up…

The pattern I used is called Zetor, more about this project on its Ravelry page here.

Lacy rib socks

I decided to join the socks from the toe up KAL and this month we’re knitting lacy rib socks. I decided to use this yarn, which I received in the snob swap earlier this month. Here’s a better photo of the yarn, taken using my lightbox:

And here are my socks, slowly growing on their needles:

I hope I finish on time, but it’s coming up pretty nicely. More information in the project’s Ravelry page.

Some more lightbox experiments

I had another session with my lightbox, trying to figure out the best way to photograph yarn, and I think I’m getting better at it. What do you think?

My summer dress in person

It’s been a long time since I finished my summer dress (nearly a year!) but I haven’t had the opportunity to wear it until recently, as I needed to make some kind of undergarment for it, with the skirt being so lacy it’s practically transparent. It took me a while to fashion myself some sort of a shift out of silk gauze, and by then it was too cold already for a summer dress like that. But now that the season is warming again, I can wear it in all its glory, with silken shift and all.

Isn’t it just gorgeous?

Amoroso Aeolian

My mother is here to visit, which is great because I just finished knitting a shawl for her and she’ll be able to take it back with her. I chose to knit knitty’s Aeolian Shawl in malabrigo lace in Amoroso colourway, using teeny-tiny Japanese beads. I got a special, tiny 0.5 mm clover crochet hook, which was rather pricey, to catch the yarn and slip the beads over it, one at a time; it turned out to be worth every cent, as it was a fairly easy job with a hook so good. Here’s the shawl blocking on my bed; it’s been quite difficult to spread it out nicely, and I’m so glad my mother helped me with that.

Amoroso Aeolian

Not surprisingly, my mother was overwhelmed even before the shawl was properly blocked. I’m sure she’s going to enjoy it – in fact, she already wore it once when we went to a concert at Palau de la Musica before she and my dad returned home.

72 hour shawl

My man’s mother came to visit, and I wanted to make her a small gift to take with her. Since she wasn’t staying long, I knew I needed a quick and good looking knit, and remembering how quickly I finished my Tübinger Schal, I decided to knit her a Shetland triangle with beautiful malabrigo sock yarn in Solis colourway.

I managed to finish the shawl within 72 hours, or 3 days. Here’s the finished shawl, being blocked on my bed:

And here are a couple of pictures of the shawl being worn by my man’s mother:

Tübinger Schal

I just returned the other day from Tübingen, Germany, where I was interviewing for a Master’s program in neuroscience. It looks promising, but I’m still waiting to hear from there. Of course, I wouldn’t consider travelling without taking some knitting with me, so I took this silky merino malabrigo yarn in Indiecita colourway with me…

And I cast on my Shetland triangle right away as my plane took off:

This has turned out to be a very quick knit, so after a couple of days I had this much on my needles already:

Tübinger Schal

I was nearly finished by the time I came back home, and the shawl is already cast off and waiting to be blocked. More about this project in its Ravelry page.
