And yet another knitted gift, this time an extra-bulky shawl for my friend Sara from school. The yarn is a merino-acrylic blend called “Simpson’s”, how funny is that?
I’ve used three skeins of this yarn, and the shawl has come out huge!
I’m really happy with the texture my pattern created, it looks very interesting on both sides.
While my classmates are having fun in Egypt, my guy and I went on a 4 day mini-holiday in Ibiza, renting a car and just enjoying the off-season in this marvellous island. Of course, I wouldn’t dream of spending my vacation without knitting, so I took this lovely cotton-viscose yarn…
and started knitting this lacy shawl:
I intend to wear this shawl along with a crocheted dress my mother made 30 odd years ago to the animalada ball, which is the closest thing to a graduation ceremony we’ll celebrate. Â I also made an evening bag to match, from the same yarn and a bit of silk:
and that’s the bag, opened. I really like the striped fabric lining it.
May 3rd, update: That was my complete outfit…
and if it wasn’t enough, I made a knitted matching necklace, too.
Continuing with my knitted gift streak, here’s the hat I’ve knit for my little brother. I’m currently knitting him a matching scarf as well, but I have no photos of it. It’s worked in a 70% alpaca yarn from Peru, but I have no other information regarding its origin or composition, as it was sold in yarn cakes by weight, without any other identification.
In parallel to knitting my guys sweater, I started working on a scarf for my cousin’s birthday, which will be in three days. Of course, Â since I’m so far away, she’ll receive it when I see her next, or when someone who visits takes it to her. I knit it with some amazingly soft malabrigo lace yarn, in a colour that should match her green eyes. I used a pattern similar to that I improvised for Chris’s scarf, but without horizontal garter stitch panels. I’m quite happy with the results, and I’m sure she will be too.

Finished result, showing off in the local SnB meeting:
I started a huge project: knitting a sweater for my guy. It’s my first big project, and not only is it big because his a sizeable man, which requires a lot of yarn (and malabrigo yarn, not a simple acrylic) and knitting, I’ve decided to knit entirely using the continental knitting method, which I’ve learned by myself watching this video:
Also, he really likes cables, so this will be my first experience with real cables. In order to keep track of the sections and cables along the design I’ve laid out, I made some really cute stitch markers, just for this purpose.
Here they are in action:
Jan 7th, progress update:
January 28th, progress update: sleeves are nearly ready.
February 5th, progress update: I’ve blocked the sweater and tried sewing it together, only to find out that the sleeves are disproportionately long. This is so disappointing, I will have to unravel both sleeves…
Another baby sweater, this time for a friend who lives up north in Sweden, I’m sure his junior benefit this warm, cuddly woolen greatly. Although this sweater is not too different than the ones I’ve knit before, this is the first time I blocked it, as was recommended to me by my new friends at Ravelry, and I’m very happy with the results.
Again, I took extra care to make sure the neck came out as I wanted.
My friend Chris’s birthday is coming up, and I decided to make her a scarf for her birthday. I wanted to make her a narrow, wisp style scarf instead of a stole, but got the pattern instruction a bit wrong (this is the first time I knit lace), and got something a bit different, but no less attractive.
Beginnings are  always hard, and sometimes even frightening. However, I’m going to do my best and be brave, and just plunge into this new world. I decided to open this blog as some sort of crafting journal, in order to keep track of everything I make. So here’s my first entry – a baby sweater I knit for a friend’s baby who was born not long ago (on my birthday, no less!). It’s not the first birthday sweater I knit, but I have very little documentation (i.e. photos) of my previous gift, which saddens me, therefore as far as I’m concerned, it’ll not happen again.
What I like about this sweater, other than the lovely colour of this yarn, is the stitch pattern I used, which gives it a slight cable-y look, a bit like a mock cable, but very easy to knit.
I’m particularly happy about the neck details, it looks so nice.
